Porto to become Ryanair’s new hub
Porto Airport, the second largest airport of Portugal, has experience a substantial growth in the last year. With the city of Porto repeatedly ranking as one of Europe’s best city destination, the in-bond traffic has increased substantially and so did the offer of available connections.
Ryanair is currently the major carrier at Porto Airport with over 50 European routes available.
In recognition of Porto Airport efficiency and growth potential, Ryanair has chosen this location for the new hub offering convenient connections not only to Porto itself, but also for passenger ins transit to other popular Portuguese destinations, such as Lisbon, Faro in continental Portugal and Ponta Delgada and Terceira, in the archipelago of the Azores.
This means that passengers travelling to either of those destinations will be able to connect through Porto, without the need to leave the airside of the airport, having to pick up their luggage up and check it in again for the remaining segment of their journey. Instead, the luggage will be checked in the airport of origin and checked out in the final destination.
With such an upgrade come additional routes; the carrier announced that 20 new destinations will be added to their implies that in the nearest future more 20 new routes will be added to Ryanair’s route map in Porto in the near future.
