When arriving to Porto in Northern Portugal by train from the south, you are bound to reach your destination in the eastern part of the city.
The train from Lisbon will arrive at Porto-Campanha railway station in the area of the city called Campanhã. The railway station itself is a georgeous old 19th century building that has been carefully restored.

Underground, the railway station complex is totally modern with parking facilities.

Transport from Porto train station to city centre
Location wise, the Porto-Campanha train station is a bit off the beaten track, but transport from the train station to Porto city centre is easy.
You are spoiled for choice with the following options:
- metro line – use the very modern metro (subway) in Porto
- city bus – less intuitive to use, but still efficient, buses are in front of the train station
- rental car – several providers at the Campanha-Porto train station
- taxi – expect a charge of €5-8 to the city centre for the approx 5 km drive
Metro – use line A, B, C, E and F from Porto train station Campanha
Five out of the total of six metro lines in Porto make a stop at Campanha train station.
Line C has its terminus at Campanha.
For travelling by metro to the city centre, it does not matter which line you take. All will stop in the centre which will be stations ‘Campo 24 de Agosto’, ‘Bolhão’ or the most central city centre station ‘Trinidade’.

If you need to go to São Bento; the other train station in Porto, change to metro line D at Trinidade. São Bento train station is located in the centre, and offers local train services as well as the Douro Line along the Douro river (which also calls at Campanha).
Campanha is by far the most important railway station in Porto.
Rental cars at the Campanha train station in Porto
In the station building (entrance from platform 1), the hire car companies Europcar/Interrent and Avis/Budget are found.
Please note that opening times at the Campanha hire car offices (Avis and Budget) are from 9.00 to 13.00 and again from 15.00 to 19.00, all days of the week Monday to Sunday.
For Europcar and Interrent, no service is normally provided on Sundays and on Saturdays only from 10.00 to 12.30. On week days, the Campanha Europcar/Interrent office is open 09.00 to 13.00 and again 15.00 to 18.30.

Please note that on bank holidays the offices for rental cars at the train station may be closed. The same may be the case in the weekend outside tourist season.
